Thursday 14th. September 2006:
Not again! More heavy cloud and rumblings of thunder. Massanella will have to wait yet again. Decided after much heartache to head south and attack Galatzo mountain, Malorca's Matterhorn. All went well as we retraced our route back towards Palma. The weather was improving - that is until we headed up into the hills. Suddenly the clouds turned black and we were in heavy rain again. Time for a coffee and re-think the day yet again. Some of us wanted to head back to base but Mel was not having it and insisted we drive up to the starting point and at least - walk! somewhere
We headed up a steep road, Gordon driving, until we encountered large potholes at which we had to drive over carefully. This is where smoke started to emit from the clutch as Gordon strugged to escape the clutches of the hole. Eventually we made it. Phew! (the smell from under the car was awful!)
Anyway at last we were all heading up the mountain (on foot). The weather was still closed in so we could ot see too much but we reached the first col and then traveresed around the cliffs to reach the second col. A quick dash up from the ruined hut and we were on the summit and yes the cloud momentarily cleared enough for a few photos. Lunch on the summit then the return trip to the car which went uneventfully.
The drive back to Soller was in sunshine of course and yes the cloud cleared completly for the second early evening in a row. But not for long .........
Hopefully!!! we will have better weather tomorrow.
