Our trip to the center of Australia began at 6:00 am. We got picked up by the big orange bus and then drove a long ways. We stopped at Millstream Falls, Lynd Junction Pub (the smallest pub in Australia) and at Porcupine gorge in the afternoon before reaching Hughenden. The scenery was mostly a savannah of trees, red dirt, Brahman cattle, kangaroos and termite mounds. We haven't reached the desolate desert yet, but there are no traffic lights and the roads are dirt.
We stayed in a pub hotel for the evening. It was very basic but the food was great. I realized that between the lunches and dinners provided that I would be at a pretty healthy weight by the time I got back home because I was re-filling the tank between the Whitsundays cruise, and my trip to the center and then to Darwin because several meals were to be included.
