We planned on stopping in Reno, NV for four days, so we had our mail forwarded to the downtown post office. When we tried to make a reservation, it was not possible. "Hot August Nights in Reno" was in full swing for the 10 days we wanted to be there. We talked to the Hilton Casino Campground and they said that all reservations were made a year and a half in advance in the area campgrounds. "Hot August Nights in Reno" is a car show that takes over the entire city. Over 15,000 restored cars and street rods are driven and shown, and there were over 200,000 spectators. When we drove into town to get the mail, we stopped at the Hilton to view the cars parked there.
Not being able to stay in Reno we selected Carson City which is about 40 miles to the south. Staying at the Valley Casino RV Park allowed us to make day trips to Reno and also to Lake Tahoe. We had dinner at one of the oldest buildings in Lake Tahoe that is now a quaint little restaurant. Driving through town we found that the businesses in town were taking bear statues and painting them. If you remember we had seen pigs done in North Carolina and cows in Iowa. It is interesting to see cities take a project like this and beautify the downtown areas. The Mountain View Golf Club allowed us to have a great time playing golf.
