|Yes, believe it. We actually went to this place to see their toilets!
Kawakawa is the place where Austrian architect and ecologist Friedrich Hundertwasser spent 6 months each year relaxing in the beautiful quiet scenery of the northland. He was asked in the late 90's to build public toilets for the town's main street and since then, they've both attracted tourists and created discontentment among the locals who didn't understand art and the potential of the tourist dollar!
They are quite a unique site by NZ standards and were fun to see.
