Dan In The South Pacific 2006 travel blog

So I decided to leave Auckland on the 31st of January after I decided that the city was killing my wallet and I was really bored. You can probably conquer Auckland in about a week and not miss anything if the weather is good, why in God's name did I spend almost 3 weeks there?

The most economical way to get to where I was working was to take the Intercity Bus, which is equivalent to Greyhound. I had to haul my pack up the hill to Sky Tower where the bus station was and we left the city at about 8:00 am. This trip was nothing too exciting, it was a bus ride. The difference between Intercity and Greyhound though is that the drivers here provide a touch of commentary along the way instead of playing movies and hoping that nobody gets locked in the washroom so they need to move (that's what happened when I took the 'Hound from Peace River). We passed a couple of small cities/large towns like Hamilton and Taupo but overall the ride was uneventful. We arrived in Wellington at about 7:00 pm, and I checked into the Downtown Backpackers Hostel across from the train station where we landed. The train station reminded me of the one Harry Potter took to Wizard school only I didn't see a platform 4 1/2.

The hosel was a bit dingy but it was cheap and only for 1 night. Apparently a young Queen Elizabeth II stayed in this hostel in the early 1950's (you're useless trivia for this entry).

Add this song to the playlist: "On The Road Again" by Willie Nelson, which is on like a million different albums. I was rotting in Auckland and needed to move on.
