Megan's World Trip continues travel blog

Fast boat to the border

Another early start waiting for the bus at 6.50am. Met a lovely girl from Scotland - Ruth - who is also travelling to Stung Treng and then on to Laos. Not a very eventful trip, just 12 hours of sitting on the bus. At the first stop they had the fried spiders. Not game to try them this time. Women carry around trays with lots of spiders piled up on them. They are obviously cooked and have a yellowish liquid oozing out of them. Doesn't sound so nice eh! The roads weren't so bad. If you read the guide books they all say how horrible the roads are and only adventure travellers go this way to cross into Laos. The last 2 hours was on gravel road, a little bit bumpy. We only had one tyre blow out, so after a 30 min stop we were back on the road. Arrived in the sleepy town of Stung Treng on sunset. Followed some guys to their guesthouse and got a room for $3. Not much to do in this town so we organised our border crossing trip and got some food. Ended up playing cards with Ruth (Scotland), Paul (USA) and Eliza (Iceland) until the generators went off and we had to go to bed. - Megan
