¡Hola, mi amol!
This will be our last entry for this unforgettable trip. Our last week of travels was spent in Trinidad, a beautiful small city on the south coast of Cuba. Trinidad is like Havana and Viñales in the sense that houses are painted in all the colours of the world and old soviet crowd inhabit the streets while the scent of cigars flows in every nook and cranny, but Trinidad is ever more so!!! Just wandering along its cobbled streets was a gift to the senses. Adding to this the fact that there is an amazing beach nearby where we spent hours on end enjoying our last baths in the Caribbean before returning to our cold and rainy Basque Country.
We stayed at the home of Naysis and Leonello, a charming Afro-Caribbean family. We spent our first days in Trinidad with Jose, Iñaki and Bixente, the three guys from the Basque Country we had met in Viñales. Then they left and we met Angela and Mirco, a couple from Imola (Bologna). We became friends and celebrated Mikel's birthday in their company and with the help of rum and cigars.
The last days were a bit unsettling, because we knew the end was close, too close, and the feeling was very strange to say the least. We were eager with anticipation to see and hug our families, but we really didn't want to put an end to this unbelievable experience.
If only we could go home for a few days and go on travelling...
Idoia & Mikel.
