Around Westport

a seal colony

long way home...

We started our 2 weeks journey around the south island of New Zealand. First we drove to the west coast where we saw a big colony of seals in Cape Foulwind next to Westport. The Tasman sea was very ruff and they struggled a lot to get out of the water... Poor seals!

After that we drove south, we wanted to stay in Greymouth overnight but it was alreday getting late when we arrived next to the Pancake rocks so we decided to stay in Runakaiki overnight. that was a very good choice as our hostel was in the middle of the forest and only a few minutes away from the sea.

The coast is very nice, it's very wild and they are loads of rocks and blowholes...

The next morning we went to the Pancake rocks, that's a very nice place with loads of strange rock formations. We were there at low tide which is not supposed to be the best time to be there but we still enjoyed it.
