Our Winter Adventure from October 2015 until late spring of 2016

We are underway again, heading south to FL. The following is a recap of our very busy and wonderful summer:
Memorial Day Weekend found us in the East River the first night where we anchored with two boats tied to each side of us. The anchor held all of us all night! Sunday we went to York River Yacht Haven Marina and Monday we returned to Bluewater. June 10-24, we went cruising. We headed up the bay and joined up with other 470’s for a rendezvous weekend which is always fun and where we always eat extremely well. Then we headed south again and joined up with the Sailstice group and participated in all of their events. Then we took off for a few days by ourselves. It was a great cruise with mostly wonderful weather and one memorable storm while we were anchored in Little Bay. The anchor held and so did everyone else’s, so it just ended up being a night of little or no sleep. We got back from that trip and Karen packed her bags and headed to CA. She had good visits with both brothers, cousin Suzanne, and our “adopted” daughter, Sandi Shearer and her family. Once home again, Karen did laundry, cleaned house and got ready for our big event of the summer. Freddy brought Lily and Kaitlyn home! He stayed 5 days and they stayed two weeks. While Freddy was here we took a sail boat trip to Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Steven Sparkman was there with his two daughters, Quinn and Swain, so the girls had a great time together. And Leslie (Younger) and Gene were there with their two little boys. It turned into a big pool party! When we got back from the boat trip, Freddy headed home to FL and Karen, Lily and Kaitlyn drove to DC for two days of sightseeing and then to Chincoteague to see and ride the ponies. Back at home we visited the Nature Museum and then had a day at the Air and Space Museum. At the end of the visit, Karen flew to FL with the girls and spent a week helping get them ready for school. While Karen was doing all the traveling, Fred was getting work done on the boat…and enjoying some peace and quiet. Karen got home and before we knew it, Labor Day weekend was upon us. Mary and Vernon joined us on Southerly for a mostly wet trip to Norfolk Yacht Club…makes no difference because we have fun together no matter what the weather does. After that weekend, we took Southerly up to York River Yacht Haven and had her hauled so a bow thruster could be installed. She was on the hard for almost a month and a half. We had lots of work done on her during that time (new hoses on the engine, new cutlass bearing, bottom paint, fiberglass repair, etc). And while she was out of the water, we spent a wonderful week and a half in Myrtle Beach with Mary and Vernon, enjoying the beach and the Shag music and dancing. The last couple of weeks have been spent seeing doctors and getting the boat ready to head south…and we are ready…unfortunately, a cold front has come through and dropped the temperature…
