Rumsky Rambles
In his bestseller The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho tells this story: A boy seeks out a wise man to tell him the secret to happiness. The wise man gives him a spoon with two drops of oil and tells him to go look at his house for two hours. The boy wanders around and returns at the appointed time. The wise man asks what he thought of his home; did he enjoy the beautiful tapestries, the glorious gardens? No, the boy was too focused on not spilling the oil to look around him. The man gives him another chance to take two more hours to really look at his house. This time, the boy soaks in all the wondrous sights but when he returns, he sadly discovers that the spoon is empty. The old man tells him, "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon" (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist). This blog serves as my way of sharing all the marvels of the world without forgetting those drops of oil, my connection to those who make the journey worthwhile.
