Driving in the fog over Thompson Pass

7/15 – We awoke early for the drive to Valdez. It is a bright sun shining clear day and we are hoping the weather is the same on the other side of Thompson pass,. We headed out for the 80 mile drive to Valdez for our boat tour of the Sound and Columbia Glacier. As we headed north and approached the the Pass, the weather changed drastically. The fog was so thick you couldn't see 10 feet beyond the front bumper.

We arrived in Valdez and boarded our boat, the Spirit. We had a great day viewing, sea otters, sea lions, humpback whales, sea birds, icebergs, and the Columbia Glacier.

The only disappointment was the cloud cover of the mountains. I'm sure the views would have been awesome if the clouds would have lifted.
