Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Yep, we're going that way!

Miles & miles & miles of sunflowers...

There wasn't much traffic today, just trucks like this one...

Took us awhile to figure out what this was! We noticed it...

Hwy 83 looked like this for most of our trip today...

Soybeans, corn & sunflowers...And lots & lots of silos....

Red barn for my buddy Joyce :)

Crossing into North Dakota...Not much of a welcome sign out here!

Still looks the same...Lots & lots of sunflowers! It must be big...

Arriving at our new 'home', at least for a few days...

Circling around to our site...

Backed into our site pretty quickly & got internet/tv quickly...Yay!

Our yard...Plenty of space between sites here!

Starting to see a bit of color change...Love that :)

We pulled out of Pierre, SD on Thursday, traveling north on US 83, crossing the North Dakota state line & arriving at our campground around 5pm. It was a pretty drive, although a bit desolate in many spots. We looked for a spot to pull over for a bite of lunch for quite awhile before finding a gas station with a lot large enough to accommodate our rig. I think Onyx had her legs crossed for awhile too!

I was sad to note that we flew by a dirt road that indicated Lawrence Welk's farmstead was 2 miles away. We were traveling about 60 mph at the time & there were no warning signs about the farmstead any earlier. Larry did offer to try & find a spot to turn around but as I've already mentioned, it was a two lane highway with no easy 'stopping' spots, certainly nowhere long enough or large enough to get us turned back around. We considered going back for a little day trip but it would be a good 3 hour round trip so we ultimately decided our remaining time would be better spent doing other 'touristy' things.

Friday we visited Fort Abraham Lincoln SP, home to On-A-Slant Village, a beautiful museum & Calvary Square which includes General George Armstrong Custer's home. We had a great time there! But, more on that later. This was just supposed to be a quick update :)
