Got an unexpected, pleasant call yesterday from our new friends Ray & Elaine. You might remember that they have been working at Hart Ranch down near Rapid City for the past couple of months. Unfortunately they are leaving a bit earlier than originally planned but wanted to know if it was possible to meet for an early dinner before they head out at the end of the week.

Elaine's been wanting to dine at The Ruby House Restaurant & Red Garter Saloon, located in Keystone, so we agreed to meet there at 4pm. We'd never noticed this particular establishment in the past even though we've strolled past it several times over the years. Amazing, how could we have been so oblivious I wonder, lol? We started out with 2 appetizers, the buffalo meatballs & a blooming onion, both quite tasty. Of course there is a full service bar as well. The other three enjoyed a margarita with their appetizers while I stuck with raspberry tea. Darn prednisone, no alcohol for another week or two for me. For those of you wondering, I am finally doing fairly well. Yay!!! Still haven't figured out what triggered my 'issue', just glad my eyes are doing well and the swelling is nearly gone :)

Anyway, Ruby House dinner options included things like Buffalo, Prime Rib, Ribs, Chicken, Trout, Walleye, Shrimp, Pasta & there's even a children's menu. Our meals were delicious & we highly recommend this restaurant. The turn of the century decor was really well done & offers the largest display of antique pictures of world-renowned western artist Charlie Russell prints in the area. We had a wonderful time chatting away for 3 hours. I love the 'Maine accent', get such a kick out of listening to them :) Sorry Elaine, yes you do sound 'cute'! She says she has no accent, lol.

After dinner we strolled main street and did a bit of shopping. I needed a new t-shirt you know, lol! We stopped by & watched them do a bit of Chainsaw carving. It is amazing how good these guys are. Wish we had the room to carry one of these wonderful pieces. Wonderful decorations for any home. And we enjoy getting our annual 'huge chair' pic & took a few on the 'bike' this year as well. Fun!

It was getting dark so we decided to drive the couple of miles out of town to a pullout near Mt Rushmore. Ray & Elaine weren't aware of this particular area. You probably have seen where I'm speaking of. There is a side portrait of George Washington & a large parking area, so they followed us for a photo op. Last year the government had it all blocked off & would not allow us into the area. Ridiculous! Anyway, it was 8:45 PM & we knew it would be lit shortly so we hung out & waited. Tried to get a decent night shot, but by 9:30 the light was poor & we were quite a distance so it didn't come out all that great. But, I'll share it with you anyway! The good part was we got to enjoy their company a bit longer so it was worth the wait :) Anyway, we wish them safe travels on their way back to Maine & we sure hope we get to head their way soon. Perhaps next year! Love that area of the country & look forward to visiting it again :)

Today our friends John & Joyce arrive for at least the next month. They were here a couple of years ago but only for a week. So they still have plenty to see & do! And, they've not yet experienced Custer's Gold Discovery Day's weekend so we know they are going to enjoy the parade, hospital bed races, street dances etc etc kicking off this Friday. Fun times ahead!!! So check back again soon. Should be a busy time :)
