|Friday evening we joined a group of old & new friends for an enjoyable dinner at the Victory Steakhouse in nearby Edgemont. Afterward we attended the 2014 Edgemont Theatre Company's performance of the melodrama 'A Golden Fleecing or...The Undermining of Sarah Sweetflowers'....Oh my, it was so terrible, it was great!!! Frank leaned over & whispered to me at one time that 'this is terrible, but I LOVE it!!!' LOL
Have you ever been to a melodrama? When we were kids Mom used to take us to Knott's Berry Farm. And of course I went there many more times as an adult. One of my favorite attractions was the 'Bird Cage Theatre'. Not sure if it's even still there these days. Anyway, there is always a villain and a good guy & plenty of 'booing, hisses and awww's going on. Now that's fun! Last night there was good audience participation & front row seats. I took a ton of pics & video too. But, I'll share just a few today since it's hard to communicate the 'feel' without actually being there. You might get a kick out of some of these pics though. Most everybody got shot at one point & there was a great fight scene!
With names like Sly Scavenger, Miss Twinkle Toes, Tumbleweed, Crazy Clara, Stanley Stoutheart, Sarah Sweetflower & Big Bad Granny how can it miss??? LOL
A description the scene's as we saw them.
Scene I: Cactus Bobs Saloon in the Ghost Town of Elbow's Bend
Scene II: Two weeks later
Scene III: The mine shaft
Intermission Break for Root Beer Floats
Scene I: Cactus Bob's Saloon two days later
Scene II: A few minutes later
And one last comment. The action stops when the "Train Time" sign is brought on stage as a BNSF train rumbles down the tracks just behind the theatre. Only happened once this evening but it is too funny!
If you are in the area there are two remaining performances scheduled for the 18th-19th at 8pm. Tickets are $8.00. Unless you are a senior, then the price is a whopping $4.00!
