Yesterday we met the nicest couple for lunch. Ray & Elaine are from Maine and have been following our blog for several years. They are in the Hills, working at Hart Ranch near Rapid City. Ray had contacted us several months ago about working in the Hills for the summer & they ultimately decided to go for it. We decided to meet at Lintz Bros Pizza for lunch, a first for both of us. The pizza was good, the company better! We spent nearly 4 hours chatting & laughing & really enjoyed meeting these wonderful folks. In fact, we've decided to do it again soon. Only this time they will be coming to Custer. Ray is a retired fire fighter & is enjoying his retirement for sure. They sold their home & live full time in their Tiffin Motorhome traveling back & forth from Maine to Florida mostly. We're glad they decided to head our way this summer & hope they enjoy their 'stint' here in SD.

As we made our way back to town we stopped for a few minutes to visit my cousins Wayne & Judy. As I already mentioned, they are hosting at the Game Lodge Campground this summer. Wayne happened to be outside as we arrived but they were actually getting ready to head over to Sylvan Lodge for dinner & a hike around the lake. It was their 48th wedding anniversary yesterday, so Happy Anniversary guys! They took a few minutes & gave us a tour of one of the campground's 'tent campers', basically a roof over your head that sleeps 4 & also provides a/c & heat. A bit pricey for $52.00 a night but I suppose if it stormed hard it would be well worth it. Of course, every campground & cabin in the area is booked solid for the weekend.

After chatting a bit we headed out of the campground & back on to Hwy 16A where we encountered two buffalo and just a bit down the road two big horn sheep. Youngsters, & looking a bit bedraggled for sure, but we always enjoy watching them & these were our first for the year.

We arrived home just in time to wash up a bit and rest a few minutes before Lou arrived home. We had made plans earlier to attend the first night of open mic at the Frontier Bar & Grill hosted by our buddies Mark Williams & Steve Gardner. We arrived just after six & enjoyed a light meal as several of our musician friends took to the stage. The turnout was great & hopefully you'll get a chance to stop by if you are in the area. Open mic will be held the 1st & 3rd Wednesday from 6-9pm. And by the way Ramblin' Rangers, you were missed!!!! But we do hope you are having a wonderful time on your vacation and are traveling safe :)

Well, that's it for now. Another fun filled day here in the Black Hills. Tomorrow is July 4th and we will be going to the parade in the morning, bbq'ing in the afternoon & partying at Jim & Colleen's in the evening as we watch the fireworks from their balcony just adjacent to Pageant Hill. Custer does a terrific fireworks show each & every year, rivaling any other small town for sure! Of course music will be provided for a couple of hours prior to the fireworks & we'll be front & center for that as well. Hopefully we won't get any rain. Shhhh, I can't believe I just uttered those terrible words, lol! Thanks for stopping by & have a great day everyone!!
