|On Monday we arrived for our dental appointments after an easy walk across the border and a short jog down a couple of blocks. This is the 5th year that we've come into Algodones, Mexico for dental work. I got a crown, cleaning & two old fillings replaced with porcelain in 2009 for a grand total of $365. Unfortunately, while eating popcorn I chipped off a small corner of said crown 2 weeks ago. It wasn't hurting at all, but I thought I should get it checked out to see if it needed replaced. I also needed my annual cleaning and a general checkup. Other than 2 crowns, I am still fortunate enough to have all my natural teeth. And I want to keep it that way if possible. I understand there is nothing like your 'real' teeth.
Larry on the other hand has 2 bridges. He's been eating on one side of his mouth for several years. He had a tooth pulled 2 years ago & last year he cut a wisdom tooth! Really??? When he first told me I laughed. I thought he was surely mistaken. Can a person of his age really cut a wisdom tooth? Yep, sure can. It's been really bothering him, which he failed to mention until I booked my dental appt. So, appointment time for him too. We both had cleanings, Larry got an extraction & 4 xrays, and my crown will be fine for another year. It broke off so smoothly they didn't even have to polish it down. And I still have no pain or any other issue with it. Thank goodness! The bill, $175. Pretty darn good. Wish we had realized how good the prices and work were here in Mexico before Larry had his bridges done. We highly recommend coming here for work if you are paying out of pocket like we are.
The only downside of Larry's extraction will be a very limited diet for 3-4 days. Nothing spicy, greasy or hot. So what's approved? Anything cold, including ice cream, pudding & Jello. And salads, plenty of salads. And nothing until his 3 shots of lidocain wear off. So today he watched while I enjoyed fajitas for lunch. I tried to tell him I would grab a bite when we got home but he insisted I enjoy the local fare along with a tasty margarita.
After lunch we hit the local pharmacy & picked up a few things. Antibiotics for Larry for 5 days, muscle relaxers and a couple of other things for family members. But shhhh, I didn't tell you that. You are only allowed to bring things back for personal use. Our last stop was at an optical store for sunglasses for Larry. A free eye exam, new frames & tinted prescription lenses for $60! Now that's a great deal.
Well, that's it for now. We'd planned to start for home today, but all of Arizona is under a severe wind advisory, so we decided to sit still until tomorrow. Hopefully it will die down significantly as predicted. Guess I'll do a few household chores while we wait but one of them certainly won't be dusting!!! LOL Have a great day & thanks for stopping by....
