Sharon, Marsha, Susan and I left Mesa Verde and started our journey back to Colorado. We took Highway 160 through Wolf Creek Pass over the Great Divide in Colorado, which is fondly described as "37 miles o' hell!" The peak is nearly 11,000 feet almost straight up. Marsha had a few problems with her rig, but made it across and we traveled on into The Great Sand Dunes National Park. This is my third trip to the Dunes and each time I am more amazed at the sight! The tallest dunes in North America, they stand in front of the tremendous Colorado mountains. You can read more about the Sand Dunes at http://www.nps.gov/grsa/historyculture/index.htm.
We stayed one night at the National Park campground which was packed - mostly with tenters. During the night a strong wind came up and by morning, most of the tents had been dismantled.
