On the packed bus to Nagoya

Arrived in Kyoto, Jenny, then my bed in the middle, then Andrea's!!!

Birthday dinner! And not one piece of raw fish in sight!

We were so disappointed at having missed the Nachi Taisha shrine (Zalie saw it at the end of her walk the day before) so we decided to hit the road early, catch the train back to Shingu, then a cab out and back to the shrine before catching our pre booked train onto Osaka and Kyoto.

The weather had cleared slightly, with only a little drizzle, and we got straight on the shuttle back to the station at 8am. Everything was working out perfectly, surely today nothing would go wrong!

Arriving at the station, there was a bus leaving immediately back to Shingu so rather than trying to work out when the next train was, we jumped straight onboard. Back at the Information Centre, AGAIN, I passed a Brazilian guy I had spoken to the day before and stopped to say hello. He informed us, luckily, that all trains had been cancelled until 6pm due to weather! Zalie was scheduled to fly home to Melbourne that night so somehow, we had to get her to Osaka and us to Kyoto – there goes the shrine.

We quickly joined the growing queue to catch the only available morning bus to Nagoya (the next one left after 1pm), where all trains were running, and luckily managed to secure a seat. So, it was off to Nagoya.

Arriving at the station, we each bought our bullet train tickets and said our farewells – Zalie taking a more direct train to Kansai airport and the remaining three on to Kyoto.

It was still raining when we arrived but cleared as night approached, thank goodness. It was Jenny’s birthday today and she had decided she would like to try teppanyaki for dinner (I think for her, anything other than raw fish and rice would have been heaven).

After a lovely meal, we headed to a wonderful roof top bar for a celebratory drink. For a change, the night was calm, balmy and dry!! Fingers crossed it stays that way for a while.
