Shared taxi into Sikkim...///see photos...amazingly fast internet here in Pelling. Heading to Khecheopalri Lake next and then we go on to Yuksom.

Wiki Info Pelling

Up and hike DOWNHILL this time to 8 am shared jeep to Jorethang by 11, then next jeep at noon to Pelling by 3pm. Checked into Hotel Garude right across the street from where jeep dropped us off. If no clouds our view of Khangchendzonga (mountain) would be terrific from our balcony. Unfortunately, it's cloudy! Spend the rest of the afternoon plotting our next 3 days to maximize our short time in Sikkim. At dinner we met Juan and Nuria from Spain. They've been trekking in Lehdak, on vacation for 2 months in India...she's a special ed teacher, he's an ag engineer. Nice couple who we'll meet tomorrow morning at 9 to arrange shared transport to Yuksom on Tuesday.

Went back to our room and watched the finals of Olympics- Dream Team gold and women's pentathlon.

Woke at 7...clear enuf to see Khangchendzonga, or at least the bottom reaches of it. Met Juan & Nuria (joanedo@gmail.com or nunagarridoarbos@gmail.com - Costa Brava l'escala) and we arranged a shared taxi for tomorrow to leave at 9 for Khecheopalri Lake (where they will camp for several days) and then we go on to Yuksom .

Today is hiking/walking day to Pemayangtse Gompa and the overlook to see Rabdentse ruins. Back to/thru town and up to Sangachoeling Gompa - second oldest monastery in all of Sikkim.

Weather cooperated the entire day even though it's cloudy/hazy, still cool & comfortable. After an internet break (fantastic speed, really surprising given our location), we head back to Hotel Garuda for dinner. Juan, Nuria, and Israeli girl(Medi) came in for food as well and we had a real round robin chat covering world political & economic crises (didn't get into environmental, religious, or military conflicts - not enough time, ha!).
