On the way to Langkawi Island, Malaysia!

After our 5 hour ferry ride that took 9 hours, we arrived in Ko Lipe the Island that "has no available accomodation" on account of word quickl spreading throughout the travel community that one MUST visit now before the secret is out and all is ruined (ie: lots of people traveling here) next season.

So we showed up after dark with our new friends from Canada (Anne from Montreal, Glen from Vancouver) via long tail boat from the ferry, to have the girls head to the closest restaurant to guard over the bags and order food, while the boys immediately ran across the first beach to find a free room or two.

The results of the run? Straight into a military compound where the men were cleaning their machine guns! Bad bad (as the Thai would say).

Back to the starting point to continue running around looking for a room or two while the girls started to eat and enjoy the fantastic evening view.

In the end we settled for a family room at the islands best resort (for $60 a night total - with breakfast) and we found our long term rooms the next day at the Porn Bungalows. Note: we think Porn means something very different in Thai because we have seem it a lot and it is always family run!

Note to Dick and Diane - we ended up staying at THAT resort! The one in the magazine. Life on the road is grand - thanks for showing the photos to us!

So about Ko Lipe...

The rooms are rustic. We listened to the songs of the geckos and the constant pitter patter of termite feet past our heads last night while safe and sound under our mosquito net.

The snorkeling is out of this world - just a mere 10-20 feet from the shore!

Internet access is pricy and slow so we will not be on very often and won't have photos up for awhile. Maybe when we get to Malaysia - which was not a country we had planned on seeing!!!

Oh and we are very safe regardless of the recent media etc. We are not taking any overland travel in the southern provinces and the event up north seemed to involve drugs from what we have heard.

So until then know that we are meeting lots of great friends, will celebrate our first full moon party this evening and that the beaches here are really ALL THAT!!!
