Bus station 10 km from center.  Take #100 bus into, first hotel we go to across from city bus terminal says all full, it's a holoiday! We go to one next door, Hotel Comercio, and a couple is waiting at desk.  Man returns & they take a room.  We ask for a room, he says he's only got 1!  We take it...4th floor only 2 rooms up here, ours and other couple!  Last 2 rooms!  He had appologized that due to holiday he had to charge 60r, usually it's 40r...we are just happy to have a room!

Up to bread, butter, jam brkfst...then out to explore this very beautiful & different town in mtns. (see pics). At Imperial Palace Museum (only word for it - opulant...but that's all monarchy isn't it). Best part was meeting in line for tickets a 3 some of brother & 2 sisters from Sao Paulo. They spoke English and explained many things in museum which has no English in displays. Really nice kids, 24, 27, & 29! We have been totally overwhelmed by Brazilian hospitallity in that they don't wait for us to ask, they approach us to offer help! The only country we've come thru on this trip to find this level of welcoming help!
