|This morning we were up early and shared a "taksi" to the airport with our neighbors, Jeremy and Angela, from England, who were on their way home today. We arrived at the airport at 7:45 a.m. and checked in for our 9:15 a.m. flight, one on which we would get spoiled, since we could only get a business class flight off the island this morning. Enroute we were able to take some pictures from the plane of one of the Indonesian islands, Java I think, and its volcanic terrain....we arrived in Singapore at 11:30 a.m. and made our way to our hotel, located in the Orchard Road area. Singapore, also known as "The Lion City", is a city, an island and a nation, all rolled into one....sitting just north of the Equator with a mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western cultures.... and its national pastime appears to be shopping....with one month to go before Christmas everyone was out and about shopping for Christmas bargains along Orchard Road where there is no shortage of shopping malls....it was weird to see Christmas trees and decorations and to hear Christmas tunes playing, all in the 30 plus degree heat and humidity.....where is the snow???? We enjoyed a tasty East Indian dinner at "Maharajah" just off Orchard Road and then made our way back thru the throngs of shoppers, humming along with the Christmas songs as we went.....
