|Today I cleaned the carpets while Larry got all of our fishing gear together and loaded the boat. I think it was the warmest day we've had this summer, so we ultimately decided to wait dine/picnic at Stockade Lake and then enjoy a leisure boat ride on our Sea Eagle Paddleski afterward.
We arrived about 6:30pm and were launched by 7pm. The sun was ducking in and out of the clouds and the changes during the hour and a half we were on the water were amazing! We were disappointed to see that all of the bird nests on the island were abandoned and in fact, most were completely gone. I think the tornado watch we experienced several days ago might have had something to do with that. Or perhaps they just grew up & flew away. However all but two nests were gone so I'm leaning toward the storm having been a big issue.
The water was like glass tonight but there were about 5 other boats on the water and we did encounter an occasional wake as they sped past. Most were on the other end of the lake fishing so they weren't really bothering us at all. We spotted several heron, a couple of deer and had a short race with a muskrat. The little guy was swimming his little heart out, I think he was pretty frightened of us. We snapped a few pics and then let him make his way to the waters edge in peace.
Sunset was beautiful, first pink then bright oranges and finally just a glow behind the Black Hills. We love to troll around on Stockade at sunset. But I think we're going to do our next trip on Bismark. We'll fish Bismark for sure, probably Monday. Well, that's it for now. Time to take a quick shower and hit the sack Night...
