Beatrix Potter's house - view from her garden

the lovely little local church

the views on the walk through the countryside

After the morning walk, I headed on to Near Sawrey which is a little place just south of Hawkshead on the other side of Lake Windermere. A tiny little place, it actually has one big claim to fame. And that is, that it's the home of Beatrix Potter. In fact the little country hotel I was staying in was next to her house.

An unbelievably popular place now especially since the movie apparently, it is hard to move through the town due to the amount of people. So I instead escaped for a long walk through the fields and then up into the woods above lake windermere. Very pretty and serene. Although with my over active imagination and the denseness of the forests at times, I can easily understand how people used to be afraid of brigands and outlaws many hundreds of years ago. The woods can be quite creepy....

but I am not that silly!
