Visit to Homes of the Roosevelts in Hyde Park

|August 29 – Visit to Homes of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt in Hyde Park, NY
It was a beautiful day in the Hudson River Valley. A perfect day for visiting the homes of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt across the river from our KOA campground.
We took a ranger-lead, one-hour tour through both homes – Mr. Roosevelt’s home was huge, dark and formal inside and the other, Mrs. Roosevelt’s, small, light and informal. Franklin’s mother Sara controlled the home of Franklin where he grew up. Sara was referred to as the Tigres. The two homes were on the same 1600 acre property a few miles apart.
Eleanor was greatly involved in human rights and was not comfortable in social events. She did not need the glitz of a large home to feel comfortable. She is seen as Franklin’s counselor concerning many issues.

Both homes were surrounded by flower gardens. I took many photos of them, as usual. : )
Tomorrow, we will tour the Culinary Institute of America and dine at the Apple Pie Bakery Café.
Have a great week.
