Eventually arrived in Rio and headed straight for Mellow Yellow an hostel that had been recommended to us. Hadn't met many English people in South America until we arrived there; the hostel was full of Brits, Luke got some male company in the form of his good friend 'Matey'. Mellow Yellow had a lot to offer & was a welcome haven for the end of our trip; it had a spa, free internet, free breakfast, a bar with an Happy Hour ;) & the more nights you stayed there the more rewards you got, free drinks, free meals etc.
We spent our first morning visiting a market where we hoped to get some Brazilian handicrafts, the market specialised in electronic goods and clothes so we didn't stay there too long. Headed straight to Copacabana beach for the afternoon to work on our tans. Spent the following day at the beach there too, was a beautiful beach however our views were slightly spoilt be men in skimpy shorts & women in extremely skimpy bikinis.
The night before we headed to Ilha Grande we went out in search of a Samba club with our friend Daphne who we had met in Mellow Yellow. We headed for Llapa (the heart of Rio's nightlife) ended up at a club joining in with all the brazilian dancing, not knowing the steps we just joined in and made complete fools of ourselves, i'm sure at one stage though we were doing the hokey kokey!
