Richard’s headmistress, Elizabeth, and her husband, Michael, are big on the social scene in Accra and they have very kindly included us in a lot of their social engagements. This has been great for us to be able to see a variety of things we wouldn’t normally get a chance to be a part of.

Elizabeth put a great deal of effort into organising the end of year Christmas Carol concert at the school which was really good fun, if a little peculiar to be singing ‘Joy to the World’ in 32° heat! Richard did a great job of introducing the event and Alexis was a last minute stand-in to award prizes to the younger children in various subjects. It took her a while to realise who they were asking for when the MC called for Mrs Jones to come up to the stage… It was a great day and everyone, especially the children, really enjoyed themselves.

Last weekend we received an invitation from Michael to captain’s day at his golf club. He has been the President there for the past 3 years and he really put on a good day. There was an amazing spread of food, including a whole roast pig, unheard of anywhere else we’ve been in Ghana! After the food there was a prize giving ceremony for the best players and speeches from the President and Captain. Then there was a live band and everybody had a good dance. We’re certainly getting to see a different side of Ghana than we’re used to and it’s been very interesting.

It’s hard to believe there’s only a month left here now before we head on our travels to Southern Africa. We’re definitely going to make the most of the time we have left!
