Pima Air and Space Museum and "Boneyard"

Wow - what a long day. We got to the museum about 9:30 and didn't leave until 4 pm. By the time we got in and got our tickets, and Bob rode the Flight Simulator, it was time for the tram ride around the acres and acres of planes. One of them was Air Force One that Kennedy and Ford used, which we got to walk through. Then we just had time to go to the car and eat our "diet lunch" of cheese and roast beef before getting onto a bus and touring the "boneyard" at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (after showing our id's twice). There are over 4000 planes on the base, the only facility of its kind in the U.S. It's a 2600 acre open-air storage, and the aircraft range in size from the B-52 Stratofortress bomber to the tiny Cessna A-37 attack-fighter bomber. When we got back we looked at the rest of the museum, which included the X-15 space plan in the Challenger Learning Center. They use that part of the museum to teach schoolchildren about space and have actual mock launches. We also saw the supersonic SR-71 Blackbird and the "Flying Fortress" among over 200 more planes. They had a Super Guppy (see picture) that was really funny looking. The front section unhinges and opens up to transport super-large cargo. Didn't have time to go to the casino afterwards, as neither one of us can see to drive at night - and Bob somehow lost his glasses on the golf course. Will go another day.

Today (Thursday) we just dinged around. Went to the store to get more diet food, took the dog to the groomers, and Bob worked on the water/filter system while I made some more rice/green bean dogfood and boiled some eggs and did dishes. And our usual walks. Maybe we'll have time today to re-learn how to ride the bicycles...
