Willmanns to Alaska 2016 travel blog

I was up bright and early, running around Whitehorse trying to find a windshield repair kit. Walmart didn’t have one. NAPA didn’t have one. 2 other auto parts houses didn’t have one either, so I went to the hardware store and got a 1/16 inch glass drill bit and some super glue. Got back and did the repair, not much hope of it working but hoping to maybe get home before getting it fixed. I can’t imagine getting it fixed up here. We stopped at Jake’s café for lunch, I had the hamburger steak and Karen had a cheeseburger, both were good. We got a pecan pastry roll to go, it looked too good not to get one. Off we went down the Alaskan Highway and the route 37 turnoff to Hyder, Alaska. We stopped at that corner for fuel, not sure where we’ll get our next diesel. This station is a throwback to the 1960’s, and not in a good way! It’s about 400 miles to Hyder from this fuel stop which is well within our range. We made it about 40 miles south on 37 before making our night camp at a rest area. You can’t believe how quiet it is here. I love it.
