For my last shot of the day! Hope you enjoyed the ride...

Dave & Judy picked us up at 9am for today's outing. Yep, you heard right, 9am! Now if you know me at all, you know that for me to be out the door at that time of the day takes an act of congress! I am not a morning girl at all. Although I have started going to bed closer to 1am than 3am lately. That old late swing casino shift schedule has died hard but really doesn't fit into this lifestyle. We traveled in a Prius today, one of 3 vehicles our friends own. An interesting combination of gas & batteries. Runs smooth & quiet & gets as much as 48 MPG. Much more economical than touring in the truck for sure!

It was a bit dark & foggy as we made our way along the Columbia during the first portion of our drive. But eerily pretty. There are several 'floating home' complexes along the bank which I found quite interesting. Most had a boat of some kind moored near their garage & steps leading off the deck into the river. Pretty convenient river access :) Mt Hood was directly in front of us although obscured more than we liked. It looks really beautiful, wish it had been crystal clear today. Nevertheless it was a lovely drive.

Dave & Judy had driven the Hood River County Fruit Loop a couple of weeks ago and were sure we would enjoy this 35-mile scenic drive. They were right! It took us through the valley's orchards, forests, farmlands, and several friendly communities. We visited a winery, stopped at a wonderful old cemetery, purchased some delicious baked goods at a farmers market, ate lunch at the Full Sail Brewery overlooking the Columbia and just had a wonderful day in general! Larry put me to work at an apple orchard when I stopped for a few pics too! Some interesting glass/sculpture figures caught our attention but alas, the gallery was closed today. We could see several lovely pieces inside (bowls, vases etc) so I think D & J are coming back soon. On our way home Dave found an interesting place to stop under the St John's Bridge in Portland so I could get a pic with a different perspective. I liked it!

Tomorrow we move over to the coast as we make our way to Brookings to see the family. We're anxious to see them all, it's been awhile. Son Don is driving long distance truck these days so we're trying to time a part of our visit while he's home. And I know we'll see some beautiful scenery along the way. I love the ocean and everything about it!!! Can't wait to walk along the shore with my feet in the sand. Onyx loves it too. Not the water part, just the sand & the shore, lol. She screams like a girl when we get within a block or two! So, we'll see you there...
