On the bridge

August 3

Crossing the Mackinaw Bridge to S ST Marie and the Upper Peninsula. One day visit planned and staying over at the local WalMart. Figured what we wanted to see most here were the locks and we could do that in one afternoon...

Drove over to locks and saw 2 lake freighters pass though the locks; one headed to Lake Superior, the other down-bound to Lake Huron. We were able to watch from an excellent vantage point: the 2-story observation platform. Also visited the Shipwreck Museum located in the former weather station building.

Ate dinner at Subway and accessed their Wi-Fi connection. Picked up the movie “Unbroken” at the Red Box, which we were able to watch on John's laptop computer. Note: without hook-ups (or using the generator) we are limited to 12 volt power, which gives us basic lighting and use of the water pump.

There were several other Rv'ers in the WalMart parking lot and we figured, like us, they were there to see the locks and then move on … not much else to see and do in the area!
