Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Welcome...

As you can see, the trees are pretty bare, fall is here!

I am happy to see a couple of pretty white clouds!

We stopped here for lunch, not much green or pretty around here...

A brief glance at Oklahoma City as we sailed on past...

More farming & lots of cattle around...

This area has over 100 wind turbines...

They actually are quite near the interstate, wish there were plenty more...

We got up early, I ran into the store & picked up a couple of groceries & we were on the road by 9:30am. It was a beautiful sunny morning & got even warmer as the day wore on. 70+ degrees today. Nice...we traveled over 350 miles before stopping at a small (16 sites) Passport America park. There is no "it" factor, but there is fuel, a restaurant, full hook-ups & it was $11 on a Saturday night! I was so glad to finally arrive! My whole body feels like I've been on a horse for days! I don't know how our ancestors did it, for sure. Can you even imagine covered wagons across this terrain? No thank you. I LOVE our Ford! Our fuel bill has been reasonable, even with prices running about $3.30 per gallon for diesel. Gulp....thank goodness for our Ethos!

We're only a couple of miles from the Texas border. All the way across 2 states in the last 2 days! We have been listening to books on tape. I bought Larry 9 of them for Christmas last year. We're only on our 4th book, don't know why we waited so long to listen to them. We find them very entertaining & it sure helps the miles go by easier. Think I will look for some used ones on Amazon as they are a bit costly new. I bought sets of 3 for $25 each originally. Seems like we haven't listened to the radio much. When we aren't listening to the books, we just enjoy watching the world go by. We always compare "did you see that?" comments & it is amazing how we notice different things! Maybe it's a 'guy, girl' thing? LOL We did both notice Tobey Keith's Bar & Restaurant today & the huge tower announcing that Garth Brooks lives here. We also passed 3 big buses carrying some "important person, perhaps a singer?" and wondered who might be in them. Looked like one was towing an "equipment" trailer, so we surmised a singer with all the necessary "stuff".

We discussed the "Okie from Muskogee" & the "Amarillo by Morning" lyrics! Just couldn't help ourselves! First time we've noticed how many of the cities we're driving through have a song named for them. Like Memphis, Nashville, & Phoenix. And hey, let's not forget 'Viva, Las Vegas'! Now that we're actually en route, we can't wait to see everyone!
