Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

We're on I-40 here, still in North Carolina, I liked these trees...

We stopped here for lunch, so pretty....

Our rig is in the middle, the weather was beautiful, 67 degrees....

Our view across the street as we eat our brats!

Uh oh, the skies are turning gray & cloudy...

It is Thursday evening 10pm as I write this. We have spent the last 3 days on the road doing about 250 miles a day. I have to say that the portion of I-40 between Greensboro & Asheville, NC was absolutely beautiful. Possibly the prettiest piece of road ever! The colors were amazing. I don't know why my pictures don't do it justice, probably because they were all taken through the windshield! There really was no good place to pull over & traffic was moving right along. About 3:30 it started to sprinkle, so we made the decision to stop for the day. We located a super Wal-Mart 8 miles up the road & by the time we arrived it was pouring! Visibility was terrible. We pulled in, put out the slides & dropped the landing gear to take a bit of the weight off of the truck. It was then that we noticed the signs posted, "NO Overnight Parking or Sleeping & NO doing business out of your RV!" Business, what kind of business? A city ordinance. Now what? It was raining entirely too hard to leave, dark & Larry had had a beer by then. So, we waited a bit nervously all evening for that rap at the door. It never came. In fact, by morning there were a couple of other rigs parked there as well. I have to say, this was the busiest, noisiest Wal-Mart we have ever seen. Lot's of activity, sounded like at least 2,000 firecrackers were going off, cars racing through the lot, people visiting. It was strange. I was glad to see daylight & we moved on early.

Next stop, Smyrna, Tennessee. My brother-in-laws brother Dave & his wife live here & we have dinner plans this evening. So we checked into the park, got set up & they arrived to visit for a few minutes before going out for our meal. Minutes before we were to leave, it started pouring again! Just our luck. Fortunately, we didn't have far to go. Dinner was wonderful, filet's & homemade rolls to die for. We had a very nice visit & then stopped by their home to visit a bit more. When everyone started yawning we decided to call it a night, so Dave ran us back home. Sure was nice to visit with them.

We had hoped to hook up with one of our readers, Donna & hubby Roger while in the Nashville area also, but due to the time frame of getting Larry home to see the doc, we moved on out this morning. We were a bit disappointed, as we really wanted to see them again (we met at the Ely KOA when they were workamping there 2 summers ago), visit the Opryland Hotel all decked out with their holiday decorations, as well as hit a few of the local haunts on Music Row. This would require a great deal of walking though, so we decided to put it off for a later visit. We may come back this way in April-May on our way to the Black Hills & I am sure Larry will be doing better by then. Gatlinburg & Pigeon Fork looked interesting as well. Dollywood, you know!

So, we are currently parked on Elvis Presley Blvd, a block from Graceland. We were here in Memphis a few years ago & toured Graceland & the museum all day. We loved it, so I doubt we will go back again. We'll see how cold it is in the morning. There is free visitation from 7:30-8:30am each day, but the temp is supposed to be below freezing tonight....brrrr. Which makes me think it won't be too warm at 7:30am & I don't do cold very well! Wonder if they'd care if I came in my jammies? LOL

I'll let you know! Good night.....
