Oh my, not sure we can afford this cone!!!

Beautiful sunset to end a terrific day!

We celebrated Independence Day today like many of you, doing the traditional July 4th activities. We began our day by attending the parade downtown. It was started off by many of the local children who really enjoyed 'strutting their stuff' down Mt Rushmore Road. There were no floats in today's parade and it was much smaller than the one that will be held later this summer during Gold Discovery Days. But, they did a great job honoring not only our vets but local fire & rescue personnel. As most of you are aware there are numerous fires being fought across this country, including several in this area. Many folks have lost their homes & possessions as well as their lives. A sobering thought. In fact, all fireworks were cancelled & there is a fire ban in effect that includes campfires & charcoal grills.

After the parade we went to fuel the truck. On Wednesday's they offer a 10 cent per gallon discount which makes diesel ONLY $3.67 per gallon. Wow, who would have ever believed we'd see these prices? But that's nothing compared to the cost of an ice cream cone here at the Dairy Queen! LOL You'll get a kick out of the receipt I'm posting today! Of course it was rung up incorrectly but I just had to keep it to share it with you! Sorry about the crumpled appearance, it was in my pocket for awhile.

A short nap in the afternoon & we were ready to go again. We arrived at the showmobile in time to hear our buddies the Ramblin' Rangers set, then joined them at the Darkhorse Saloon for a bite to eat before returning to the showmobile for this evening's music. Another friend, Moe Perry kicked it off, followed by the band Pleasant Valley Sunday. After the skies turned dark the city shared a fireworks presentation (on DVD) by projecting it on the showmobile wall. Ok, whatever it takes, lol! Not quite the same as the 'real thing' but it worked! Larry & I got our fix by watching the Macy's firework display after we arrived home.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed your day with family & friends. We had a nice couple of days, but now I'm ready for a day of complete relaxation. My honey has promised me a massage. Boy, I sure hope that promise comes through!!!
