Pretty harbors along the way

Approaching Penobscot Narrows Bridge

447' observatory tower - we rode to the top

View of Bucksport from the top of the tower

It was a long way down to the bridge

Fort Knox

Sun., June 10th – It was only a 70 mile drive along Route 1 from Rockport to our next 3 nights stop in Mt. Desert Narrows Resort near Bar Harbor. Along the way, we toured the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, riding the elevator up to the observatory that towers 447’ above the bridge. It’s the only bridge observatory in the US and 1 of only 4 in the world! Included in our stop was a tour of Fort Knox, built in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River valley. So glad Bruce knew about this neat place to visit.
