Today our drive took us from Caliper Lake to Pickerel Lake in Quetico Park. Saw lots of Minnesota License plates all hauling boats. Seems the fishing and the dollar here are better. It is surprisingly built-up here in this remote part of the province. I thought it would be more rugged, but there are lots of very nice homes and lake front properties everywhere. Apparently there has been gold discovered here recently and this has attracted lots of money. According to one local, water front properties have increased significantly in value.
I know I have mentioned this to a few people; we the thought we were doing so well with few or no bugs…..that has all changed since we arrived in Ontario. We can’t leave the van without spraying all exposed skin. They fly up your nose and crawl in your ears. In addition to bugs it appears there is a bumper crop of poison ivy everywhere. Signs are posted to watch out for it but some of the campgrounds appear to but letting it grow as ground cover for the campsites. Makes for interesting walks. All I do is look down it seems. After retreating inside to let the bugs settle down we were able to walk out on a rocky outcrop down from our site and watch a spectacular sunset.
