New Year water celebrations 1

more water

a small break from soaking

Having spend the better part of a week in TonSai, we head to Ao Nang for the Thai Buddhist New Year Festival of Song Kran. We came expecting water and wetness, but it didn't stop there. Talcum powder lathered on our cheeks, perfume, hugs and 'where are you from?'. For the first time it's pure fun, and no Thai Baht to pay. Started at 10am on a two way street, and by 4pm it turned into a one way street going through the downtown and out and aroung again - music blaring!. Super-soakers, hoses, pickuptrucks loaded with happy souls and 50 gallon buckets of water. To try and not part-take is just plain silly. It was either be soaked, or soak and be soaked, the latter more fun. We started out at an internet cafe with four local children and our own 50 gallon bucket and hose - adopting locals and tourists only if they would fight our cause that is to keep no-one dry. Only a few survived to be taken by someone else with the same cause. Happy New Year (Song Kran) from Ao Nang.
