|Earlier on our trip we visited with our great friend Dave Clark in Portland Oregon. Yesterday we toured Portland Maine. It was such a nice day for touristy stuff and we did it up big. First we took the trolley tour of the city, an hour and a half guided tour of this historic town, waterfront and light house. Our guide was excellent and kept us laughing as he took us to all the parts of Portland which has about 65,000 people. One outstanding stop was the Portland Head Light House. They say it is the most photographed light house in Maine. After our tour we had lunch on the water and lobster roll number 3 for me. Shirley had a veggie burger that she said was very good. Next we took a walking tour of the city to many of the places the trolley drove by. One spot was the childhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow the American Poet. We had an hour long guided tour of the home that Longfellow lived in until he went to college. The guide gave us a great deal of information of the history of Portland as well as the Longfellow family. Not done yet, we drove to two more light houses in South Portland and have seen them all. On the way back to the campground we stopped at the Portland Sea Dogs baseball park and guess what, a gate was open. Another great day and a lot of it was on the water! Enjoy the pics.
