The weather was not ideal yesterday but we had plans for it. First we went on the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory Tour. This was the first factory the guys built in Waterbury VT. Yes it was fun AND we got free ice cream. Next we stopped for lunch in a nice little restaurant in downtown Waterbury. They had a wonderful full wall mural of this historic town. Next to the Waterbury Historic train station which has been totally restored and houses the Green Mountain Coffee exhibit and the history of Waterbury. This town was decimated by hurricane Irene just last August. They have done a remarkable job cleaning up. We couldn't tell there was a flood. Grounds for Health is also located in Waterbury. That is important because 6 years ago Shirley went on a medical mission trip with Grounds for Health to Nicaragua. We were warmly greeted by the director and her staff as we reminisced about the trip which was filmed by PBS. Not done yet as we set out for Richmond VT to visit the Round Church a historical landmark. We arrived before 4 pm but they must have closed early so we had to settle for pictures of the church which is still in use today. If that wasn't enough fun on an overcast day, wait there's much more. My college roommate and great BF'er friend David Root has a sister who lives in Richmond. Shirley called Joellen up and planned to meet for "coffee". We have known Joellen for about as long as David but haven't seen her much over the past 25 years. She met us at the Round Church and we walked to a local bakery for coffee and snacks. We had such a good time catching up and hearing about her family. Shirley had one last surprise for me on our way back to Burlington. She knows how I love baseball parks and Burlington has a minor league team in the NYP League. I thought all minor leagues were over September 1 but I was wrong. They actually had 2 games left so I was dropped off to watch the 14th ballgame of our trip. What fun. Shirley did laundry and picked me up after the game and we settled into the camper for a night of heavy rain. The sound it makes on the roof makes us so happy we are not tenting anymore. What a fun and great day. Enjoy the pics.
