We were up early this morning and had the laundry in and done before 9, including the ironing of our uniforms! Since we have to work tomorrow, we went to the Cosmic Kitchen for breakfast this morning, and it was very good. When we arrived home, we cleaned the house and worked on bills, etc, as well as setting up reservations for our bus trip when we visit Denali in September.

As the tide was high, and good for viewing shorebirds, we rode out to Mud Bay in the afternoon and visited the Lighthouse area of Mariner Slough, where we saw quite a few returning birds – a first for the fall season getting ready to begin.

When we got home, we had a first. I cut John’s hair in the rain. I’ve cut it in a lot of places, but never in the rain – there was really no way to move under the awning without making a LOT of adjustments, so we worked quickly and there was only drizzle. He is happy with the cut and everything looks pretty even – no buzz cut!

Dinner was stir-fry beef (round steak) with fresh veggies from Alaska gardens and rice – rice pudding for dessert. We watched “Arctic Dance,” the story of Olaus & Mardy Murie, Alaskan pioneering conservationists. It was excellent, almost as good as the book.
