Finally away and on the road. We have moved rather quickly north up the coast for a couple of reasons, the first is to get warmer quicker and the second as we have seen a lot of the coast up to this point. We did 3 days straight up on the road doing about 1000kms and now we are in a warmer climate, back to shorts and tee shirts and no electric blankets.
After the quick run we did 2 nights in Midge Point, a quaint caravan park in a very small coastal town, heck it’s that small the IGA (small supermarket chain) went broke and for the day there which was to be our 1st relax day it rained and rained and would you believe it rained, about 100mm in total so we relaxed in the van staying dry. Missions accomplished but not the way we intended.
Now on the last day of 4 days at Airlie Beach, a coastal tourist town the jumping point to the Whitsunday Islands but starting to get disappointing, South Molle Island, Lindeman Island and Long Island all closed, no more island hopping trips and the town starting to be overtaken by backpackers, not surprising but still sad. We have however been able to visit 2 beautiful areas which we have not been to before, including having lunch with old (not in age) neighbours. One area was Conway National Park with a very flowing Cedar Creek Falls after so much rain it was brilliant. The other was Hydaway Bay and Dingo Beach where the water was so blue, calm and inviting however we didn’t go swimming.
From here we will progress up the coast to eventually Cairns where we will have a week making sure all is well before we head west into the outback.
And so the adventure continues.
Love and best wishes
