GRANDSON'S COLLEGE GRADUATION TRIP travel blog

We arrived in Phoenix one week ago today and we will be staying here two more nights leaving here Wednesday morning for Williams, Arizona. In Williams we have campground reservations for two nights and reservations for the Grand Canyon Railway trip that leaves Williams at 0930 Thursday morning and arrives at the Grand Canyon around 1130. We then board a bus for a driving tour of the Grand Canyon that includes a lunch before boarding the train and arriving back in Williams at 1745.

This morning Ross picked up the radiator grill for the motorhome and it looks better than it ever did before. Ross' nephew, Dan, arranged for Ross to have the work done and the company did a fantastic job. The finish is a powder coat that should be significantly more rugged than the paint that was used by Tiffin Motorhomes.

Ross placed an order for some black tank chemicals through a company in Prescott, Arizona and that package arrived by UPS this afternoon. We would leave here tomorrow except that the reservations for the Observation Deck on the Grand Canyon Rail trip were not available until Thursday so we decided to stay an additional night here in Phoenix.

So far the weather has not been too bad here in Phoenix. We have only two days with temperatures in the 90's and today is one of those days. The overnight temperatures have been in the high 60's and 70's making it very comfortable for sleeping. The forecast for the coming week is not quite that good so it seems we are getting out of town at the right time before the temperatures really start to climb.

Thursday we visited a memorial park in downtown Phoenix where there are memorials to Arizona citizens that gave their lives in the defense of our country is all the major conflicts. It is a very moving memorial and a great tribute to those who gave their all for our country. The newest memorial is in memory of those that lost their lives on the Arizona at Pearl Harbor and in other WWII battles. This newest memorial was complete recently and consists of the 16 inch gun barrel from the Missouri and a spare 16 inch gun barrel from the Arizona.

Last Friday we decided to visit the Arizona Science Museum in Phoenix and unfortunately so did the entire population of Phoenix because school was out for Good Friday and I guess there are no other activities for children Phoenix. The museum is an interesting place but is more aimed at kids and it is a hands-on museum similar to the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

It has been a fun week and we have had good time visiting Ross' brother, Dave, and his family.

That is all for now,

Ross & Marge
