Alice meets the volcano

Real monkeys!

The volcano

Get up and – no hot water. Walk to a nearby hotel for our included breakfast (with beans and rice) then back to the hotel to meet our bus. We’re off on a waterfall adventure. Go horseback riding for about an hour, then we walk about a mile to the river and waterfall. I forgot to bring swim suits so Alice was pissed. She gets in the water anyway – quite swift. Lots of people swimming where the waterfall hits, but many in the river as well. I get a bit wet too. Then back to the horses and ride back to the stable, then the van into town for lunch. I wander around and find the post office and mail some post cards.

In the afternoon we took a nature hike around the base of Arenal Volcano. We finally get to see monkeys! Both spider and howler monkeys in the same tree. Lots of birds – see a flock of parrots fly over. The hike concluded with a stop for a volcano view. No lava but it was spitting out rocks that we could watch tumble down the side. Some rumbling too and a bit of a glow. Back into town and dinner at a quite expensive restaurant – but the food was good and they had beans and rice. Internet was back up at the hotel so I worked on my web classes.
