The Wilson kit we purchased

The booster

New MiFi from Verizon

This gig at Cedar Breaks campground is really a great deal for us, but there was one little glitch that could have derailed the whole thing. We had no cell coverage and no internet at our site at the campground. That's a pretty big deal for me as I simply couldn't imagine 2 1/2 months without a computer and cell phone and having to drive long distances to get them. That could and probably would have been a deal killer for me. Nancy says that she would have been able to live with it, but I don't think that I could have.

We met several people at Red Canyon campground that had found a solution to this so I jumped on this and found what I hoped would be a solution. Wilson Electronics has a kit that one of the people that we met at Red Canyon CG had installed in his truck. It worked for him and for me when I tried it out there, so we decided to purchase it and see if it would solve our problem. We purchased it at a Radio Shack in Cedar City for $349 including tax. Lots of money, but if it works would be well worth it. We also converted to a Verizon MiFi instead of the air card that we have had.

Long story short, it did work! We are now able to use both the cell phones and the computer. Not the fastest internet connection, but it does work. Problem solved!!!

We often have encountered situations where we were on the very edge of coverage, and I'm sure we will continue to encounter those kind of situations going forward, so we feel that this is a good investment given that we tend toward the more remote locations.
