Banjo's Barn at the park

23rd August

We have enjoyed our stay but the time has come to move on. Tomorrow we will be on the road again heading towards Barcaldine.

Our stay at the park has been excellent, entertainment every night from The Two Short Sheilas in Banjo's barn. Susie is doing the show by herself at the moment while Mel is in Scotland organising their tour. They have been invited to attend the Edinburah Fringe Festival. Every show has been different with guest artists.

While driving around town we came across the Musical Fence. In 2003 local and visiting artists gathered in Winton to preform in a truly unique composition. The world premiere of the Musical Fence. Designed by percussionist and composer Graeme Leak, this wire fence can be played as a musical fence and is the first musical fence in the world. It is free to use and publicly accessible at any time. All you need is a stick, couldn't resist having a go on the drums.

Also at the same site as the fence, is the Qantas Airfield Memorial Cairn. In 1920, Australia's national airline, Qantas, was first established. The site of the first landing ground is situated on the Hughenden Road just outside the towns grid.

Moving on found Arnos Wall, the wall reaches two metres high and extends for over seventy metres. It is constructed from concrete and rock and is studded with old lawnmower parts, boat propellers, vintage type writers, even a couple of complete motorbikes. In fact everything imaginable even the kitchen sink.

Early Morn, Herb Young's horse drawn wagon, carted the last load of wool to the Winton rail head in 1936.It was capable of carrying a load of 9 ton when yoked with 19 horses.

Our last day in town we went into the North Gregory Hotel for lunch. Enjoying Ginger beer battered wild caught barramundi with chips and salad. Yum Yum.
