Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Cool skies as we head downtown...

There's a new winery in town...

Our new location, on the lawn to the right...

All set up now, clear in the back...

The Ramblin' Rangers, love the stage!

Across the street is a cool little museum...

And a nice memorial...

We've arrived for the hospital bed race...

The Flintstones are here...

The 'racetrack'....

Run, run, run...

Note the watermelon grab from the wading pool in center of pic...

The final race, the team on the right won, great job guys!

Tuesday evening we headed downtown for the summer Music Fest. We joined a small group on the lawn next to the Custer Museum. In the past the music has always been at the VFW but this year the city council decided to move it down a few blocks further into town. We're disappointed as we've always enjoyed supporting the VFW & frankly, we liked the seating & awning arrangement better. But, they didn't ask our opinion, imagine that!

Our friends the Ramblin' Rangers were this evenings second act and they were great as usual. As you know, we are big fans & really appreciate their music. We've downloaded their tunes & listen to them regularly all year long. Wish they would put a CD together to sell. They keep talking about it but it hasn't happened yet. If they do, I'll be sure & let you know. Afterward we came home & made root beer floats...yummy, a nice way to end the evening.

This evening we attended the annual hospital bed races, one of the many events of Gold Discovery Days. It's fun to see the beds they've manufactured each year. They auctioned off the teams before the race & there was a 40%-20% split for 1st & 2nd place for the new owners. I believe the rest is donated to the Regional Hospital. The participants were fast again this year. As you know, they run the length of the block & grab a watermelon from the wading pool before heading back to the finish line. And the crowd cheers loudly! I think this years turnout was the biggest yet.

Tomorrow morning there are hot air balloons, a pancake breakfast, a parade and finally a car show. Our friends, the Pleasant Valley Sunday Band, are playing at the car show in the afternoon. There are also flower shows and quilt shows, golf tournaments, street dances, and much more. Whew, that's a full schedule! But I'm sure we'll attend at least a few of them. The weather is supposed to cool off a bit, 75 degrees or so, which should make for a great day. See you there...
