Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

As you can see, we've arrived & I have hiked down to...

There was some neat chainsaw art...

This one was Larry's favorite...

A small part of today's crowd, trying to get closer to the...

The kids were having a grand time in the sawdust, but where...

Ok, see the size of this log?

I can't even imagine throwing it!

And the race is on...

The women are in on this also, you must cut 3 in...

This was her 3rd, nice job girlfriend!

Here you cut a wedge into the log, your partner can push...

There they go, if you hit the marker instead of landing in...

Then you run to the end with your tape measure to cut...

Brother against sister, check out the height of the brother!

Balance, balance...

Tight race here but the Mesa family won again!

Here you drag a cable up the hill & tie it off,...

He made it, tying it off now...huffing & puffing for sure!

A pretty day for a logging competition here in the Black Hills...

Saturday afternoon we attended a logging show in Hill City. Have you ever attended a logging show? We hadn't either & weren't quite sure what to expect. Dick called to tell us it looked pretty cool & he thought I might want to take some pics. He was right. There was competition in Stock Saw, Hot Saw, Axe Throw, Choker Race, Pole Falling, Rolling Pin Throw, Mainline Pull, Truck Challenge, 3 Man Relay, and more. Whew, I'm tired just typing this list out. Can't even imagine the effort & practice involved to compete in these events.

The weather was perfect, warm with a slight breeze. We were able to back our truck up on the edge of the hill so the guys could sit on the tailgate. And, our spot also gave us a terrific view of all of the events. Lou & I were surprised by the number of female contestants, and I have to tell you, they were pretty fierce competitor's. One family in particular, the Mesa's, really gave it their all, men & women alike. I bet they needed a long hot shower & a large bottle of Bengay at day's end!

Sunday we grilled burgers & enjoyed another pretty day. Yesterday Larry & Dick blew the boat up preparing for future fishing trips. As you know, Larry got his cast off 10 days ago & has been patiently waiting to hear from his doctor. Today he learned that he has an appointment on Friday morning with a podiatrist in Hot Springs. We're certainly hoping for a good report. The crutches are really a nuisance & limit his activities as well as make his armpits sore. He doesn't complain but I know he's anxious to get both feet back on the ground.

Today Dick put a new bolt in our front steps. The original riveted one needed replaced & we really appreciated Dick fixing it for us. Difficult for Larry with his foot. I copied DVD's & CD's & organized them in a new storage case. Our Direct TV DVR is acting up AGAIN & I'm afraid I'm going to lose a few things we've saved for later. We got a replacement unit about 3 months ago so I'm pretty frustrated that we have the same issue again. Wish they would send a new unit instead of the refurbished one's we keep getting. Later we joined Dick & Lou for chili and cornbread. Afterward we played a game of Hand & Foot. It's 3-1 now, girls 3, but the guys say they are coming on strong now. We'll see, either way we enjoy playing.

Well, that wraps it up for now. We're happy to be where we are, we're in good health and we're still madly in love! What else could a couple ask for, lol???

PS Today is cousin Patty's birthday...Happy Birthday Patty!
