Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

Our new friends, Dave and Theresa during a beautiful hike. The switchbacks...

Beautiful foliage along the way

In a neighborhood of Kotor, we found ourselves occupying a fabulous one bedroom apartment. We met the entire family that used to live there and now that they rent it, we rested comfortably for one week.

The Bay of Kotor is a beautiful area on the northern coast of Montenegro. We cooked at home, joined a packed natatorium to watch a water polo match with our new friends, Dave and Theresa from Manchester and had some interesting hikes in the mountains.

The big hike, with Dave and Theresa was to the peak of Lovcen on rainy and cool day. We blamed Dave for the weather as it was warm and sunny in London that day and we were chilly the entire time on our hike!

But we made it to the top, back down and after a few celebratory beers, we said goodbye to our new friends, but hope to visit them in Manchester one day. Now if the English were already surprised when we tell them we have been to England to visit Birmingham (a dreadful city according to everyone in England, including those from Manchester), what will they say when we visit Manchester as well (a dreadful city according to all in England and certainly all who live in Birmingham)! We give credit to the Brits, they can make something so simple most entertaining!

Now no sooner did Dave and Theresa leave, the temperature increased by 25 degrees in one day! We decided to go to the beach that day, and after Tomas swam around Stevi Stefan island (OK, it's a small island!) we were overheated. 2 hours after arriving we were back on the air con bus to take us home.

OK, so you may be asking, as we did, is Montenegro much different than Croatia? We were told it is less 'polished' than Croatia, but it packs a lot of diversity in a very small space. To hike in the mountains one day - as far as you want to go really, and swim on the beach the next, all while staying in the same location is quite impressive. Now you do have to be good at asking questions because the idea of tourist maps and information offices is quite new to Montenegrans, so make sure you pack some extra patience on your next visit!

Thank you for two very memorable days, Theresa and Dave. We really enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you! Hope to see you again soon! We would travel with you both anywhere, anytime! You two are the best!

Til next,
