Elk Creek campground on Blue Mesa Reservoir was the first place that I camped at 3 years ago when I arrived in the Gunnison area. It's about 15 miles from Gunnison and I found it to be a pleasant place to hang out for a while as I checked out other options in the area. They do have electric sites, but there were no hookups in the area where I stayed. They do, however, have a dump station where you can also fill up with fresh water. No trees, but a nice view of Blue Mesa Reservoir from many of the campsites. A marina is located next to the campground with a nice restaurant adjoining it. Not a place that I'd want to spend the whole summer, but I did enjoy my short stay there.

When Nancy and I arrived in this area in May we found the water level in Blue Mesa Reservoir to be way, way down. It was hard for us to imagine how much water it would take to fill it up at that time. Well, that much water was in the snow pack in the surrounding mountains, and upon our return we found it to be full up from the run off from this snow pack. Amazing, and quite beautiful at full pond.
