|Sunday dawned bright and sunny with temps in the high 70's! And best of all, no wind! Which made for a terrific day for Larry's party and the Amazing Race. We arrived at 1:30, took our 'party pics', and headed inside to schmooze a bit before the start of the game. The rules were announced and name badges were passed out. Each team had a different color and Bonnie & Larry & Larry and I were the red team.
Our first task was to complete a jigsaw puzzle. As soon as our puzzle was completed we were given a tote bag with the first clue and accessories. We raced to the car & were off and running. Most of the teams were already ahead of us as they finished their puzzle sooner than our team did. Of course, we had Miss Jasmine 'helping' and she was taking our pieces out nearly as fast as we were putting them together, lol! Ah well, it's just a game, right?
Anyway, Larry is very familiar with the streets in this area and he made up for lost time. We raced to our first stop, Blockbuster, Bonnie donned the disguise, and announced our answer. Knowing our son very well, we'd already figured out the title on the way! Grabbed the envelope with the next clue and tore out of the drive, destination Starbuck's. Fiscus decided to down the hot espresso & did a great job. He said it was terrible!
Next stop, McDonald's. It was decided Lee Ann would do the rap with the other three participating with a funky background sound. It must have been pretty good, because they announced we were the best yet and applauded loudly! Even the customers seemed to enjoy the moment. Next clue took us to Party City where we looked high & low for the hamburger eraser. We heard niece Ashley yelling on the other side of the store so found it with her help!
Our envelope led us to 7-11 next where my honey volunteered to down a slurpy. Oh my, he suffered with a HUGE brain freeze but was a good trouper for the team! After he was through we had to count out 116 pennies from a small bag to pay for the slurpy before we could move on. We hustled through that really fast. Good job team!
The next clue led us to Buffalo Wild Wings. On the way, brother Larry volunteered to take this one on for the team. He does HOT stuff best. He downed that BLAZIN' hot wing quick but boy, did he ever have steam coming out of his ears for the next 5 minutes! He drank & drank cold water & his mouth was still on fire. Guess they really did the job on the wings for the race, lol!
By the way, all of the business's that participated in today's race were outstanding! Such good sports, laughing & urging us along, yelling 'good luck' as we raced for our next destination/clue. We butted in several times with paying customers about, but everyone, including the customers, took it well when they found out what we were doing. People can be really cool at times!
Our final pit stop was at Poppy's Frozen Yogurt where Fiscus was happy to eat the task to cool his still burning mouth & lips! Unfortunately, we didn't do well, as he thought we were filling a 12 oz cup with the yogurt. So, our 1/3 measurement was way tooooo much since it was actually a 20 oz cup! Our ticket rang up at $2.18, way over the allotted $1.40. Ooops, more minutes lost there. Ah well, on to the final stop, Larry's house.
We arrived to find some of the teams hard at work on a word puzzle, our final task for the race. We finished ours last! Man, it was hard, and Bonnie & I are pretty good at that kind of thing. But it was a cool ending to a very cool Amazing Race and we all had a blast!!! Way to go Tawnia, you are amazing girl. We've all decided that she should definitely be a party planner!
After the race, Sal & Jackie took on the task of bbq'ing burgers and dogs for all of the guests. They gifted Larry a very nice infrared grill for his birthday. It did a great job of handling all those burgers, quick & efficient. We're impressed. We understand restaurants have been using this technology for years and the key patent has expired, making it available to major gas grill manufacturers. There was also mac & cheese, beans, veggies, fruit and the list goes on. Everyone was ravenous after running the race and it didn't take long for plates & tummies to fill.
All in all, a terrific day! We had a blast and are now going to check out the 'real' Amazing Race, a show we don't regularly watch. If it's even still on, I'm not sure. We arrived home about 8pm, put up our feet and watched a bit of TV. Tom, Lisa & Maya arrive from Oregon later this evening and we're looking forward to spending some time with them tomorrow. So it's off to bed for me, goodnight...
